Note on method, citation and transliteration

← Towards a Spiritual Humanistic Judaism

This thesis uses the notes-and-bibliography form of the Chicago style. References to Scult’s anthology are to the advance text supplied to the author; pagination should therefore be checked against the published edition before formal submission.1 Hebrew is transliterated according to a Sephardic-based system which is treated here as normative rather than supplementary: ḥ represents ḥet, ’ represents ’ayin, ts represents tsadi, and stress is marked where appropriate. Familiar spellings are retained only where they are part of an established title or quotation. Translations are the author’s unless another translator is identified.
